“Man has been endowed with the body, the senses, the mind, and the intellect in order to experience his natural state of bliss. But unfortunately, because these faculties or gifts of God are polluted and misused, man is drowned in misery.”
- Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba
Summer Showers in Brindavan 1990, pg. 98-9.
How can we stay centered within ourselves when chaos abounds, when nations are at the brink of war and the very fabric of life seems to be falling apart all around us. There is only one answer to this question and that is to love more! We must learn to approach "ALL in friendship and love.” This is the true agape spirit for “agape means to love one another.” A simple solution to a big dilemma. Yet, this is the way of truth!
- Quotation excerpts were taken from Ann Ree Colton on the The Agape Spirit
If the answer is so simple, you might ask, why has mankind not yet acquired and mastered the virtue of love through the agape spirit? Seemingly, there may be many answers to this question, but the truth is: If we haven’t yet learned to love ourselves, how can we learn to love one another? In order to unconditionally love ourselves, we must first learn to forgive ourselves for all of our unknowing and the pain and suffering it has caused ourselves and others.
“The Lord is the embodiment of Love, the Sun of Truth. Therefore, through Love seek to know your true Self with the help of the Buddhi [inner voice] and purify your mind.”
- Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Summer Showers in Brindavan 1990, pg. 97.
“True friendship is divine love, for it is unconditional and it is real and lasting.… But friendship can never develop if there is any hint of demand of one on the other. Friendship can be built only on a basis of freedom and spiritual equality. Therefore you should treat everyone in that divine light, in the consciousness that each person is an image of God. If you mistreat someone you will never know friendship with him.”
- Paramahansa Yogananda Man’s Eternal Quest, pg. 157-8.
As long as we are in a state of denial as to our inability to love or to be loved, we will seek with a vengeance to keep this truth from reaching anyone's eyes and ears, especially our own. Instead, we will become critical minded of others, blaming and projecting our problems and lessons onto them, rather than confronting the truth wholly and directly. For we are merely a magnification of our own consciousness which is a consequence and karmic tendency of the mind. Simply put: “If you are always criticizing then this is what you are.”
- Ann Ree Colton, The Agape Spirit.
I have experienced great suffering in my life from not being able to accept this truth. When I finally opened my heart to what my everyday world was mirroring to me, I was shown through my conscience, memories, dreams and visions that many of my misdeeds from this life and past lives had come upon me for rectification and restitution.
“Only when you follow the dictates of your conscience can you reach the right destination.”
- Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Summer Showers in Brindavan 1990, pg. 89.
“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”
- Psalm 19:7, 8
The beginning of my journey to cosmic understanding began with Marking and Tracing* my dreams. Next it graduated into Marking and Tracing my life and the interconnectedness of my experiences on a cyclic and rhythmic level with the sun, the moon and the planets. When my inner life lessons started to merge with my outer life lessons, the big picture appeared. Now I understood why I was living this life and what I had come to accomplish on a soul level. However, before I was able to reach this state of clarity, a lot of purging was required. Old habits, old ways of thinking, acting, behaving and being were left by the wayside. This is the path to Self-Realization that continually unfolds as life unfolds.
During this stage of preparatory work, I learned about Meditation from the Self-Realization Fellowship. (I had nothing to lose by attempting this approach as my life had completely unraveled before me as I shed the many onion skins of illusions, fantasies and delusions.) In my first three meditation experiences, I was given cosmic understanding of Divine Mother and the cycle of life.** This was a grace opening and receiving, as I have not received so much seeing or knowing since. I knew I had found the key to something very powerful and profound. So I continued on with my daily meditation exercises and eventually this door began to open with more frequency and with more cosmic knowing. This is the doorway to Soul-Realization.
Cosmic knowing is known as the “superconscious.” It can only be accessed via an open line to the soul. In this realm of existence, everything is of the subtle and invisible worlds. Here is where a super sensitivity to energy and seeing is awakened within the third breath. The third breath is the void between the in-breath and the out-breath and the gateway to the third eye of the seer. This is the launching pad to the third music where we may access the cosmic drama unfolding into an Eternal reality, where there is no beginning and no end, only the Eternal Now! We may lighten our load here, for we come to know that we are merely on the playground of life to learn who we truly are: co-creators with God as hierarchs in the making.
“When the divine joy comes, immediately my breath is still and I am lifted into the Spirit. I feel the bliss of a thousand sleeps rolled into one, and yet I don’t lose my ordinary awareness. This is universally the experience of those who go deep in the superconscious state. When the profound ecstasy of God falls over you, the body becomes absolutely still, the breath ceases to flow, and the thoughts are quiet -- banished, everyone, by the magic command of the soul.”
- Paramahansa Yogananda Man’s Eternal Quest, pg. 161.
The minute we awaken to this dimensional “Knowing” or superconscious state, God can start to use us to assist others in their awakening process. They too can begin to live their life from the Higher Self of Spirit, which is Truth. To speak the truth takes a big heart, for truth is love. It takes great courage to speak the truth, for those who are still sleeping will not want to hear the truth and will persecute and crucify the ones who dare to speak it. To the extent that we are still attached to the nightmare, is the extent of the pain and suffering we will have to endure from our persecutors. We cannot transcend the pains of the flesh, mind or emotions until we awaken from our astral nightmares. This requires great concentration of virtues and steadfastness of Spirit to accomplish this feat.
When we are finally able to completely awaken from the Maya dream, we may then unite with a deep feeling of abiding peace, joy and love. In part, this is what Jesus came to show us and why He could say: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” When we can maintain this state of superconsciousness in our everyday lives, we become God-Realized ones. Thus, the game is over when we learn to move back and forth between the dimensions at will, for we truly have found our way back Home.
“In coming to consciousness and awareness of continuity in soul and Spirit, man is free. He is a prophet with the stewardship of his past, and he is a seer with a vision into the future.”
- Ann Ree Colton, Gate II, pg. 32.
“For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.”
- Epheisans 5:9
